On this tour you get to explore 3 villages and join in with the locals carrying out their daily life in the rural areas around Hoi An. Your personal guide will share many interesting aspects about each stop on the tour with you, and to make sure that you are having a great time.
This is an ideal tour for couples, small group or families of all ages to enjoy some fun activities together, and, by taking this tour you help support the local people who make this experience a true taste of village life in Vietnam.
The tour will be filled with opportunities to take stunning and memorable photos.
Tour Itinerary
8:00am/1:30pm – We will pick you up from your hotel in Hoi An or Da Nang by car or minivan
Our first stop at Thanh Ha Pottery Village, our guide will take you around the village to see the local daily life, stop at one of the typical family to learn how to make the pottery and get some souvenirs to take home, then visit Tra Que Vegetable village where we will meet a local family to see how they live. Enjoy drinks made by them whilst they share stories about their lives in the village.
After our refreshment, they will demonstrate each task involved in the growing of vegetables. Then it is your turn to:
- work the soil,
- fertilise with seaweed, including stomping in the seaweed
- sow the plants, and
- water them with two watering cans in the traditional way.
After all that hard work, the next experience is to have a fun ride on a water buffalo and listen to stories by your local guide about just how invaluable water buffalos are to the farmers. Time to take that photo of you and your family riding the buffalo.
After the water buffalo ride, we will take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee/cold drinks at a local Cafe, relax a little whilst discussing the experiences.
Our next stop is the Nipa Palm Coconut Forest where we will test the seafarer in you as you will take a ride in a bamboo basket boat giving you a chance to fish for crabs.
You will learn how locals throw out the big fishing nets and you will get to try this for yourself.
Your local guides will demonstrate their amazing skills at making watches, fish, and grasshoppers from coconut leaves which they will then give to you as souvenirs.
After our nautical adventures, we will partake in a wonderful meal cooked by a local family.
12:30/18:00. After lunch, we say goodbye to our hosts and we will return you to your hotel.

We contacted Tommy about taking a private tour while in Hoi An. He came to our accommodation to talk us through what he offered and we arranged for a local village experience.
Ken, our guide for the day and the driver picked us up early in the morning in a very comfortable SUV.
We visited a village by the river where all the residents are involved in making pottery. We then went to a vegetable growing area where we spent time with a family and enjoyed doing some digging, planting and watering.
We then went to a village and rode in a basket boat among the water coconut palms, learning from our young guide about the uses of the fronds from the trees, how bamboo is buried under the mud to season it before it is used in buildings etc.
The highlight was a lunch at a home in the village where the wife cooked and the husband served us a Vietnamese meal- the best so far in Vietnam!
Ken, our guide was informative and interesting. The time with him was too short as he has a wonderful knowledge of his country.
The Tommy Tour was a highlight of our visit.
We did a Private Local Experience today which was wonderful. Mr Ken was a great tour guide and we had a wonderful driver. We visited a pottery village where we got to try our hand at making some pottery, then we moved onto the Tra Que Vegetable Village where we took part in digging the soil, fertilising, planting and watering after which we enjoyed a cup of tea with the local farmers. We then moved on to the Water Palm Coconut Village where we had a ride in a bamboo basket boat,catching crabs and enjoying the atmosphere out on the river. After getting to shore we enjoyed a meal with a local family which was amazing. This whole experience was great and I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you to the Tommy Dao team
I booked with Tommy Dao tours for half day visit to organic village/buffalo ride/banana boat for myself and my 15 year old daughter and her friend–we had a great time, it was well organized, hands on, and we learned a lot about history and culture of people in Hoi An area. Our guides spoke excellent English and knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information. Lunch was authentic Vietnamese food–we enjoyed the entire experience a lot–(and teenagers are hard to please !)–highly recommended.

A fantastic morning spent with Tommy learning about local life. We got to ride a buffalo, farm, fish and drink excellent coffee! Our children (aged 11 and 8) thoroughly enjoyed it and Tommy went out of his way to take lots of pictures and videos for us. Excellent all round!
The hotel suggested this trip when we were not thinking of doing anymore trips, and when we read about it we were a little dubious. I spoke to Tommy on the phone and he did a deal for us for 7 people and was helpful. The trip was an unbelievable afternoon, picked up from our hotel, great tour guide provided, taken to the crop growing area (mainly herbs). We were shown how to do each task and then we had a go – working the soil, fertilising with seaweed, have a little dance, soe the plants, water with two watering cans held in our backs. We then went and met a buffalo who was so gentle and calm, and we each had a ride – unbelievable! The buffalo owner was such a character too. We stopped off for a lovely coffee and then went to the river for a fun round boat ride. Such a different trip, carried out in a very uncommercialised manner. No rushing, no herding, we had an education, we had plenty of water and wipes. It was an afternoon to remember.
